Bespoke, Beautiful Picture Framing

Welcome to greenhill galleries

Need to get something framed? Greenhill Galleries can create the perfect made-to-measure frame for your fine art originals, limited-edition prints, memorabilia, 3D objects, photographs, sports shirts, and more.

Greenhill Galleries offers fully bespoke fine art framing services to individuals, businesses, artists, and galleries. Our team have over 25 years of experience in framing, and we are experts in conservation-grade and museum-grade framing.

We are a Moseley-based, Father and Daughter run small business with extensive framing experience, and we can offer you the personal touch that a larger company cannot. Larger commercial framing services often subcontract your work to other framers, whereas we take your work into the next room. We carry out our bespoke framing service on-site by hand, allowing us to deliver the perfect solution to your framing needs.

We pride ourselves on treating each framing project with the due care and attention it deserves. Using archival materials wherever appropriate, we specialise in processes that meet Fine Art Trade Guild conservation standards and work to protect your piece for years to come. In addition, our broad range of sustainable FSC approved mouldings and conservation-level, acid-free mountboard in over 200 options allows us to produce personalised frames to complement both your work and its intended space.

People fall in love with images; they create memories and evoke emotion. An empty space on a lounge wall, the mantelpiece above a glowing fire or the imposing walls of a boardroom, people want to share art and photos.

From framed family pictures to works of art in a gallery, Greenhill Galleries will help complement your cherished images and memorabilia.

Each frame is hand-made from start to finish. Using the best practices and quality materials, we ensure excellent protection and presentation, enabling you to perfectly complement your artwork and interior décor.

From the moment you get in touch until the finished, framed piece is safely hung on your wall, each decision we make is in the best interest of your work.

We offer a range of framing options to suit your budget and needs from standard framing, through to conservation framing, using materials that will protect your framed piece from sunlight and environmental factors for a long time, and the highest standard of museum-grade framing.

Framing

We stock a broad selection of beautifully finished and bare wood mouldings. To create the perfect mitred (joined at a right angle) cornered frame, we use a combination of metal ‘V nails’ and wood glue to create a durable join.

When framing larger works, we have to determine whether the frame is strong enough to hold the glass and all other elements without bowing or flexing. In these conditions, we will suggest a stronger (usually thicker) moulding from both an aesthetic and safety standpoint.

We specialise in conservation-level framing. This means we frame to a standard that preserves your pieces for future generations, including objects, original artwork, limited-edition prints of moderate to high value and other collectables. Processes are intended to be fully reversible for up to 20 years, which means that the framed work can be returned to its former state, i.e. prior to framing, at any time, assuming the artwork is not inherently unstable.

By using conservation-quality materials and the best techniques, our team at Greenhill Galleries can give your work protection from physical and mechanical damage, airborne pollution, and acids generated by many framing materials. Level 2 framing should protect your treasured items for up to 20 years under normal conditions. However, pictures are rarely hung in ideal conditions (unless in a specialist regulated environment), so we recommend that you hang pictures in stable environments away from moisture, sunlight, and heat sources, e.g. an open fire, to prolong the integrity of the framing.

Mounting

Mountboards are used to enhance the overall appearance of a piece of artwork and play a vital protective role within the frame, creating a small, but essential gap between the artwork and the glass. Fine Art Trade Guild level 2 framing guidelines specify that artwork should never come into direct contact with the glass, as this can cause sticking, condensation damage, mould growth, and deterioration of the surface over time.

By using a properly cut mount, the artwork is held securely in place while allowing it to breathe, helping to preserve its condition for many years to come. This is particularly important for original artwork, prints, photographs, and items with sentimental or financial value.

We use conservation-standard, acid-free mountboard. This ensures that no harmful acids or chemicals can leach into the artwork, preventing yellowing, brittleness, and long-term degradation. Using acid-free materials is an essential part of conservation framing and helps maintain the integrity of the piece well into the future.

We stock mountboards in over 200 colours, giving you a wide choice to suit both traditional and contemporary artwork. A variety of mount styles are available, including single, double, and even triple mounts. These involve layering multiple mounts to add depth, contrast, and visual interest, allowing the mount to complement and enhance the artwork without overpowering it.

Types of Glass

We offer a wide variety of glass options to protect your artwork, photo or memorabilia.

Depending on where it’s going to be hung, we have a range of glass options that will provide the best protection and clarity, including:

  • Float glass (plain glass): This is standard, reflective picture framing glass and offers around 60% UV resistance.
  • Non-reflective glass: This has a treatment to the surface on one side which diffuses light in different directions rather than reflecting as a single plane. This allows you to hang the artwork opposite light sources or under spotlights without the reflection obscuring the artwork. Furthermore, you can view the artwork without the distraction of your own reflection.
  • UV-resistant conservation glass: Recommended for high-value, irreplaceable, or fragile / unstable works as it cuts out 98% of harmful UV rays, which can cause discolouration or bleaching to your treasured artworks.
  • Acrylic styrene (Perspex): This has the advantage of being lighter than glass and is also shatter-resistant, making it the perfect option for children's rooms. It lacks the rigidity of glass and can crack more easily than glass.

Greeting Cards

Alongside our bespoke framing services, Greenhill Galleries stocks a carefully chosen selection of greeting cards,  selected for their quality artwork, distinctive illustration, and considered design.

Many of our cards are blank inside, making them suitable for a wide range of occasions, from birthdays and celebrations to thank-you notes or personal messages. Whether you’re looking for something subtle, contemporary, or characterful, our collection offers an alternative to the generic cards found elsewhere.

Visiting our gallery allows you to browse the cards in person, appreciate the artwork up close, and choose something that feels genuinely special. Cards can be purchased on their own or as a thoughtful addition when collecting framed artwork.

Pop into Greenhill Galleries to explore the current selection and find a card that’s as considered and individual as the message you want to send.
